I don't do cleans or the clean and press because it seems everybody but me thinks they are either 1.idiotic 2.showing off 3.not really an exercise like bicep curls 4.draw too many stares/smirks/head shaking.Just not worth the trouble but I would really like to try and incorporate them in my programs.
It just amazes me how much the treadmill and bicep curl people know than me.

looks like you read alot of the same guys I do.
make some real noise and get another squat rack.
I was afraid to try and do cleans for fear of being stared at and labeled some kind of jerk.Glad to hear someone is doing them maybe after this program (5-3-1) I'll give them a shot

I think women have a whole set of other "pet peeves"...like camera phones, oglers, guys who say things like, "wow, you really kick your own ass" (well, yes, this is a gym - it's what I'm here to do). Outside of that, I think talking on a cell phone should absolutely be forbidden. Primarily because if you can talk and work out at the same time, you don't belong in a gym, you belong on the couch with a bag of Doritos. It perhaps also falls into your "pay attention" category - which, btw, I loved. You can't imagine how many times people have nearly split their head open while I'm doing reverse lunges, et al. Ohhhh, and my NUMBER ONE peeve, when people scoff if you want to work in while they sit idly for 5 minutes between sets. I fn hate that. And now i'm starting to realize that I can come up with five more but...goodbye for now.

Mike I definitely agree that some people will have a tendency to drift towards one lift or the other. The past few months my lower body work has been predominantly squatting but there have been times where my training was the total opposite. Interesting that you feel the front squats are transferring over to you pulling. I have been doing only FSs for the past couple of months and have noticed no transfer. But then again I haven't been pulling at all and when I do I pull sumo. What kind of stance do you deadlift from?

I try to incorporate both into my training, but I must admit I prefer the deadlift. It seems to fit my particular body structure better. But I always try to incorporate some squatting. Right now I'm really concentrating on front squats to work my hip strength. Seems to be having great carryover to my pulls. Great article!

[...] Once we pulled a certain distance (20 feet? maybe?), we had to flip it end over end back to the start. This also royally sucked. I know I look all non-nonchalant but I wanted to puke right here. Check out this tutorial on how to make your own tire dragging sled. [...]

I think the my plate is an improvement from the pyramid since it's simpler for the average person to understand. when you get into the breakdown of actual serving sizes, almost nobody follows it. i mean you'd be counting ounces and grams all day long to get erfect serving sizes. the diagram is alcking, but it shows what a plate should look like for the average person.

it isnt going to be a radical increase because the governemtn cant force weight loss on the people (although they should and have started to in some states). it sucks, but its easier to look at a diagram of a plate than a pyramid.
